POSITION SUMMARY
The essential function of the position within the organization is to provide care to Shelter
animals and customer service to the public. The position is responsible for feeding and
caring for animals, cleaning and sanitizing animal living areas, providing customer
service to the public, assisting technicians in providing animal care, and maintaining
required records. The position works under direct supervision according to set
procedures.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
 Cleans and sanitizes kennels and related animal living areas in the Shelter in
accordance with applicable standards and regulations. This includes but not limited to
such duties as: sweeping, mopping, laundry, washing dishes, trash removal, cleaning of
incinerator debris, ability to care for all types of domestic/farm animals, and occasionally
wild animals.
 Provides customer service to the public, including assisting with locating lost animals,
providing information on animal adoption and care, and assisting with the adoption,
surrender, and reclaim process.
 Provides care for Shelter animals, including feeding, ensuring access to fresh water,
bathing, and providing very basic medical care.
 Performs clerical tasks, such as maintaining logs/records, performing data entry, or
assisting customers with completion of adoption or other paperwork and providing
payment receipts.
 Assists Veterinary Technicians in providing medical treatment to animals or in
euthanizing animals as directed.
 Performs miscellaneous tasks such as receiving and stocking supplies or performing
minor maintenance tasks as required.

Requires high school diploma or GED.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
Requires none.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires three months of related experience.

read, write, and speak.
Reads simple sentences or instructions; writes simple sentences; speaks simple
sentences using basic grammar.

COMPLEXITY OF WORK: “Complexity of Work” addresses the analysis, initiative,
ingenuity, creativity, and concentration required by the position and the presence of any
unusual pressures.
Performs semi-routine work following procedures, with occasional problems; requires
normal attention for accurate results.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS: “Impact of Decisions” refers to consequences such as
damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal

Makes decisions with minor impact – affects only those in immediate work area.

computer or kennel cleaning equipment.
