Job Description

The City of Woodstock, Georgia is seeking a Storm Water Inspector. This full-time position performs a variety of routine and complex technical work inspecting stormwater projects to ensure compliance with federal, state, and City stormwater codes and ordinances.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages and oversees construction sites related to enforcement area.
  • Enforces federal, state, and City codes and local ordinances; issues correction notices and citations.
  • Performs onsite inspections to ensure erosion and sediment control; prevents illicit discharge into drains, ditches, or open waterways; and prevents illicit connections between storm drains and sanitary sewers.
  • Conducts final plat walks.
  • Maintains records of inspection activities and completes related reports.
  • Assures appropriate action is taken to bring code violations into compliance by issuing warnings, notices of violation, serving court summons, and/or any other appropriate action.
  • Research problems and complaints regarding construction and development projects and code compliance; responds to complex and sensitive stormwater compliance issues;  acts with fairness; and maintains political neutrality.
  • Assists in resolving complex and sensitive customer service issues, either personally, by telephone, or in writing; maintains records and documents of customer service issues and resolutions.
  • Conducts formal surveys and interviews to determine needs for regulatory purposes.
  • Conducts title searches; gathers data from property record files.
  • Updates databases and maintains records.
  • Explains, interprets, and provides guidance regarding applicable codes within areas of responsibility to architects, engineers, contractors, developers, members of the public, and other interested parties.
  • Responds to citizen complaints.
  • Conducts comprehensive screening on stream outfalls by walking the lines and outfalls; conducts testing as may be required to identify and remediate violations.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all job-related codes and ordinances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of related work experience in public works construction projects, construction inspection, civil engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses:

Requires a valid State of Georgia driver’s license.

Special Requirements:

Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level 1A certification or ability to obtain such certification within six (6) months.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local stormwater codes and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of field monitoring to detect illicit discharges.
  • Knowledge of sediment control designs and measures.
  • Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in working with computers, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • Skill in processing field testing kits and detection devices.
  • Ability to interpret and work from codes, technical sketches, drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Ability to work well with the public and contractors.
  • Ability to read and understand ordinances, codes, plans, and blueprints.
  • Ability to work safely.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
